What it is
Tally is a form builder that behaves like a text document: you type, and typing creates fields. That sounds like a small design decision and it changes the experience completely, because building a form stops being a drag-and-drop exercise and becomes writing.
The unusual part is the free plan. Unlimited forms and unlimited submissions, within a fair use policy, including things competitors put behind paid tiers: collecting payments, collecting signatures, file uploads, conditional logic and calculations, password protection, closing a form on a limit or date, and 45 languages with right-to-left support. It connects to Google Sheets, Notion, Airtable, Zapier and Make.
Who it's for (and who it isn't)
It fits small businesses and creators who need forms to work without a form budget: order forms, applications, briefs, registrations, surveys. If your volume is unpredictable, unlimited submissions removes the anxiety of a response cap mid-campaign.
It is a weaker fit where the form is a brand surface and completion rate is worth money, which is where Typeform earns its price with its one-question-at-a-time format. It is also not a database: answers land in a table or an integration, and if the responses need to become tracked work, Airtable is the better home.
Pricing
Tally is freemium in an unusually generous way. The free plan is EUR 0 with unlimited forms and submissions within fair use, and includes payments, signatures, file uploads, conditional logic, calculations and the integrations listed above. Pro is EUR 20 per month and removes Tally branding, adds custom domains, team collaboration, partial submissions, advanced customization with custom CSS, email notifications, 30-day version history and analytics. Business is EUR 65 per month and adds data retention controls, email verification and 90-day version history. Annual billing gives 2 months free. Prices as shown here were quoted in euros.
Branding is the practical upgrade trigger, not volume. If the form sits on a client-facing page, Pro at EUR 20 per month is the honest cost of it looking like yours.
Set it up
Official guide: Create a form
- Create a Tally account on the Free plan (EUR 0), which includes unlimited forms and submissions within fair use. Have a Google account ready, and an empty spreadsheet in Google Sheets for step 6. Your Tally account is now ready.
- Open the form builder, which works like a text document: you add content by typing on the page. Type your form title, then press the "+" button or type "/" to open the list of question types and pick one. Hover over a question and click the "⋮⋮" icon on its left to mark it required. You now see your questions as blocks.
- Click the "⋮⋮" icon of a question that only some people need, then click "Hide". Type "/logic" below your first question to insert a logic block, which is a rule that decides what people see. Choose the answer that should reveal the question, select "Show blocks" under "Then" and pick the hidden question. The hidden question now appears only for people who choose that answer.
- Anyone who has the link can open your form once it is published, so check your questions first. Publish the form with the publish button in the form builder. Your form is now live.
- Open the "Share" tab of your published form and copy the link. You now have your form's link copied.
- Open the "Integrations" tab of your published form and click "Connect" next to Google Sheets. Click "Log in to Google" and grant Tally access. Enter a "Connection name", select your "Google account", choose your spreadsheet and click "Save changes". Tally now sends every new answer to that spreadsheet.
- Open the link, answer your own form, then open the spreadsheet. Your answer now appears as a new row.
When this works, you have a form link you can send to anyone, and every answer lands in a Google spreadsheet at no cost.
On Pro (EUR 20/mo): removes Tally branding and adds custom domains (your own web address for the form link), team collaboration, partial submissions (answers from people who did not finish) and custom CSS (styling rules you write yourself).
Strengths and limitations
The strength is the free plan against the category. Unlimited submissions with payments, signatures and logic included is not normal here, and for a small business it removes a recurring cost entirely.
The limitations are polish and depth. The one-question conversational format that lifts completion rates is not what this is. Analytics, version history and data retention controls sit on paid tiers. And "unlimited within fair use" is a policy rather than a number, so a genuinely high-volume use should be checked against it rather than assumed.
