What it is
Typeform asks one question at a time. That single design decision is the product: instead of a wall of fields that looks like paperwork, the form feels like a conversation, and completion rates behave differently as a result. Logic branches based on answers, so people only see questions that apply to them.
AI-powered form creation is available from Basic upward, Clarify with AI follows up on vague answers to get something more detailed, and Smart Insights on Business and above analyses the responses. It connects to Zapier, Airtable, Google Sheets, HubSpot, Pipedrive, Mailchimp, Slack, Calendly, Salesforce and analytics tools, so answers land where they are used.
Who it's for (and who it isn't)
It fits any form that matters commercially: a lead qualification form, an onboarding questionnaire, a customer survey, an application. Where a plain form loses people halfway, the conversational format keeps them, and that difference is worth paying for when each completed response has value.
It is a weaker fit for high-volume, low-value data collection, where response limits make it expensive and a plain free form is fine. It is also not the choice if what you need is an internal database with forms attached, which is Airtable, or a booking flow, which is Calendly.
Pricing
Typeform is freemium, priced primarily on monthly responses. Free covers 100 responses per month for 1 user. Basic is $25 per month billed annually, or $29 monthly, with 100 responses. Plus is $50 annually, or $59, with 1,000 responses. Business is $83 annually, or $99, with 10,000 responses and Smart Insights. Talent is $119 annually, or $169, with 3,000 responses. Growth Flow is $266 annually, or $349, with 10,000 responses and a 14-day trial. Enterprise is custom with unlimited responses.
Watch the Basic tier: it costs money and still carries the same 100 responses as Free, so paying that step buys features rather than volume. Response count, not features, is what pushes most people to Plus.
Set it up
Official guide: My first form
- Create a Typeform account on the Free plan (100 responses per month, 1 user). Go to typeform.com, click "Sign up" and choose Google, Microsoft or email. With email, enter your address and a password and click "Create my free account". Typeform now asks you to confirm your email address.
- Click "Activate my account" in the email Typeform sent you, then click "Skip" on the welcome questions. Typeform now opens your workspace.
- List your questions on paper first and cut any you would not act on. Click the "Forms" tab, then "+ Create form", then "Start from scratch". Pick "Short Text" and type your first question, such as "What's your name?", in the "Your question here" field. You now see your first question in the form builder.
- Click "+ Add content", pick the next question type (for example "Multiple Choice" or "Email") and type the question. Repeat for each question, and drag questions in the left panel to reorder them. The left panel now lists all your questions.
- Click the default title, type your own and click "Save". Click "Share". Anyone who gets the link can answer, so send it only when you are ready. The Share and Results panel opens with your form's link.
- Send the answers to a spreadsheet. Open your form, click the "Connect" panel, find "Google Sheets" and click "Connect". Pick your Google account or click "Add a new account". Choose a new sheet, name it and click "Finish". The switch for the connection now shows as on.
- Open your share link and answer your own form once. This uses 1 of your 100 responses for the month. Open your Google sheet. Your answer now appears as a new row.
When this works, you have a live form link and every answer lands as a row in a Google sheet.
On the Free plan your forms go private when you reach 100% of your monthly responses, until the next month. On Plus ($50/mo annually ($59)): 1,000 responses per month.
Strengths and limitations
The strength is completion. The one-question format plus logic genuinely changes how many people finish, and for forms where each response is a lead or a customer, that is the whole return.
The limitations are the response ladder and the paid-tier oddity. Pricing on monthly responses means a successful campaign costs more, Basic buys features rather than volume at the same 100 responses as Free, and the many tiers make it hard to see which one you are actually meant to be on. The format also suits short forms: a thirty-question survey asked one question at a time is slower than a plain list, so match the format to the task rather than using it for everything.
